Last crumb...

When you leave the busy Rokin in the direction of the Red Light District, you will immediately pass a tiny shop on the right with the most delicious sweet and savory pies, snacks and freshly made sandwiches in the window. Meet De laatste kruimel...

Laatste Kruimel Amsterdam Centrum

De laatste kruimel is decorated beautifully like a little French café, with a counter made of pallets, kitschy tableware and all the wonderful, homemade foods displayed in the window. As the place is small there are not too many places to sit, so when you enter around 1 p.m. chances are that you can only take away (which is not too bad as a little bit further up the street you find a wonderful canal where you can sit). In the back of De laatste kruimel you will find a mini terrace next to the water. De laatste kruimel is run by a couple who bake all the pies and quiches themselves, and try to re-use what is left of the day before. For example, the croissants of the day before are used to make french toast (they are finger licking good!). The owners are extremely friendly and helpful by trying to find you a spot to sit or create one if that is still possible. My faculty was there so when I studies there, there were months that I only (seriously) ate food from De Laatste Kruimel. Now I always grab a sandwhich or a quiche when I am in that area of Amsterdam.

In conclusion I can say that De laatste kruimel is still one of my absolute favorite places to have lunch in Amsterdam and I would recommend everyone to check it out when in the center of Amsterdam. After De laatste kruimel, take the opportunity to stroll aside the canals and check out the very old Oudemanhuispoort where the law faculty of the University of Amsterdam is situated and where vendors sell books and prints.
