One of my absolute favorite places in Amsterdam and therefore definitely the place I would like to kick off with is Roest Amsterdam.
Need I say more?
Deep in the east of Amsterdam, after a bit of searching and carefully checking google.maps on your phone, you will find an old factory situated in between a canal coming from the IJ and the train tracks. Roest (meaning 'rust' in Dutch) calls itself a city-oasis and that is exactly what it is. No... what it can be, depending on the moment you go.
In summertime you can lay down on the city beach, created behind the main building which is part of the factory. Here you can tan, have a beer and even swim (if you dare). Inside there is a camping-like supermarket where you can get food and beverages of all sorts, but you can also order foods and draft beers at the bar.
Throughout the year, in the weekends, you can often visit a 'weekender-market' at Roest. Usually these are hippie-themed markets that provide an opportunity to sell and buy clothes, arts and crafts and delicious foods.
Often Roest organizes events, varying from artsy movie festivals to techno parties (for which they use the warehouse next to the main building). On those occasions you will find a bonfire outside to relax.
All in all, Roest is perfect if you are looking for something different than a terrace on a hot day, a club in the city centre or just for something nice to do on a weekend-day and therefore definitely worth visiting anytime soon if you haven't so far!
