I discovered 1401 when I was searching for a pair of Dolfie shoes I had seen online. I had looked online and in every shoe shop in Amsterdam I could think of, but without any luck. Eventually I called the importer of Dolfie who told me that 1401 sold this brand. Within 10 minutes I was on my bike to the Jan Pieter Heijestraat to check out this shop and I have been coming back ever since. First of all 1401 has the nicest staff you can imagine. When you go there, they offer you a drink and you get to look around as long as you want without anyone constantly harassing you. The staff helps you with anything without making you feel onerous, therefore 1401 is a very comfortable shop to go to.
Secondly, the shoes you can buy at 1401 are cool, very cool. 1401 does not sell shoes you can find everywhere and the shoes are very varied in type and brand. The brands are usually not (yet) well known so you will be able find new brands by young designers (like Dolfie) and shoes that not everyone is wearing. When 1401 does sell shoes by big brands, that type of shoe is excentric anyway.
All these reasons make 1401 a must go, especially if you are looking for something different. I am sure you will succeed!
